Moreton Bay EEC are hosting a STEM Challenge with Year 5 primary school students. Over 250 students across ten schools are involved in using science to make the world a better place.
The STEM challenge is to explore and use scientific methods, equipment and questioning to understand the current impact rubbish is having on the biodiversity of Moreton Bay with a focus on microplankton. Two of the greatest challenges of modern times that scientists are working to solve include:
- Understanding how plastics and micro-plastics are impacting food webs and biodiversity; and
- The management of plastic waste.
Students have accepted the challenge for a day of scientific immersion, exploration and discovery. We will keep you posted on how our young science stars progress.
