MBEEC are super proud of the 72 incredible newly published authors from the Wynnum Manly school education alliance (WMsea) who took part in our Young Writers Program in partnership with popular children's author, Samantha Wheeler. Since 2016, there have been 385 eager and enthusiastic students who have engaged in the program and have become published authors.
In line with the 2022 Book Week theme of Dreaming with Eyes Open, Matt Burns (Quandamooka Cultural Officer), provided this years' students with a captivating First Nations experience, sparking imaginations and inspiring story concepts. Samantha Wheeler then joined the students at the Centre, conducting intensive workshops across three days, guiding the students' development, creation, writing and editing of their short stories.
Congratulations to all the students involved – simply outstanding! And a big thank you to all of the participating principals, deputy principals, HODs, teachers and schools: Gumdale SS, Lota SS, Manly SS, Manly West SS, Tingalpa SS, Wondall Heights SS, Wynnum SS and Wynnum West SS - without your support this program would not be possible.
