Journeying back in time enables one to learn from the past and investigate those that walked before us. Fort Lytton National Park is a special place and the site for our History in a Box program.
The History in a Box Program uses drama to foster students' connection to a historical place. Students are immersed in a story that requires them to become junior historians to help explore and sort important artefacts dating back to the opening of Fort Lytton in 1880, until present day.
Students listen and learn from the Bombardier as he takes them off on a tour inside the Fort. “Left, left, left, right, left" be sure to keep the march in time! As gunners, the junior historians learn marching, how to salute and even take an oath.
Questions posed to the junior historians during the day include: What are the Fort's most important artefacts? What is a persuasive argument to stop the Fort's imminent closure? Why is it important to preserve significant sites? Join us on program to find out! Further information and our online booking form can be found on our website.
