Newstead House, Brisbane's oldest surviving home, was built in 1846 and has grown from a simple Georgian cottage into a grand riverside residence. Sitting high on the banks of the Brisbane River, this historic house is full of stories, secrets, and glimpses into the lives of those who lived there long ago. Students visiting can step straight into the past and explore how people lived, worked, and played in earlier times.

History comes alive for students through our Year 1 and 2 program, Connect with Heritage, and the Year 5 program, Colonial Brisbane. Younger learners explore the daily lives of people who lived long ago, handling historical objects and imagining what life was like in a very different time. Whilst Year 5 students take a deeper dive into colonial life, discovering how families lived, worked, and played in early Brisbane. These hands-on, interactive experiences give students the chance to step into the past, ask questions, and see the stories of Brisbane's history unfold all around them.
