Habitat Heroes is an engaging, full-day program that invites students to investigate the different habitats of Moreton Bay (Quandamooka). Students work as 'Habitat Heroes' to explore the fascinating animals that live in these environments to learn and discover how their needs are met and how we can help protect them.
On program day, students board the Centre's boat Inspiration, to explore the marine habitat. Immersive hands-on activities including using a sediment sampler and sieves enable students to engage in scientific processes first hand. Together they use a microscope to closely observe animals found. Out on the Manly foreshore, students explore the varying habitats and animals found in the intertidal zone. Using eye loupes, they are able to look closely to examine the animals found, to learn and discover more about how they live grow and survive in their environment.
The Habitat Heroes program aims to foster environmental awareness and responsibility by connecting students to the living things in local habitats and showing them how to safely investigate and care for these unique environments.
