Minibeasts is an incursion program that explores the natural areas of your school yard to discover the insects and creatures that like to live there. In the role of a Junior Entomologist, students will identify the features of plants and animals that help them to survive in their habitat.
Students will work in small groups using nets and bug catchers to discover different minibeasts, identifying and grouping them based on their external features. Using a 'micro-eye' microscope and hand-held lenses, Junior Entomologists can examine, even more closely, the features of insects that help them grow, move and survive.
Through engaging in this session, students will begin to understand how to work safely and ethically as a scientist to make observations and explore the world around them. They will deepen their understanding of different living things and how to help them grow, live and survive in their local habitat.
