Colonial Brisbane is an engaging education program set in the heart of Brisbane's rich history at Newstead House, one of the city's oldest and most iconic landmarks. Through immersive museum theatre and hands on exploration, students as active participants are transported back to the 1800s, gaining insight into the roles that key individuals and groups played in the establishment and expansion of the colony.
Newstead House provides the stage for students to step back in time to examine the impact of this development for First Nations Peoples, as well as on the environment. Contributions of significant people including Captain John Clements Wickham and George Harris will be explored enabling an understanding of the events and their impact on the growth of the Brisbane Colony.
Students analyse a variety of historical sources, fostering critical thinking and allowing them to assess the influence of significant figures in shaping the early colony of Brisbane.
