PublishingPageContent

Living by the Bay is a day program immersing students in a sensory exploration of the natural environment at our centre and out on the foreshore on Moreton Bay (Quandamooka). In the role of Super Scientists, their senses are engaged to discover the natural world around them with a focus on the external features of animals that help them grow and survive in different habitats.

Students will use their senses to explore and describe different features of native plants around Moreton Bay Environmental Education Centre grounds. They will work collaboratively to take a micro look at the animals that like to live in and around these plants. Using nets and bug catchers and our special 'micro-eye' microscope the Super Scientists will discover, and group animals found based on their external features. Out on the foreshore, they explore the fascinating animals found in the intertidal zone habitat, using eye loupes to closely examine the external features.

With guidance, students practice working safely and ethically, while making observations and exploring the world around them. They will deepen their understanding of different living things and how to help them grow, live and survive in different habitats.
