The Moreton Bay Environmental Education Centre (MBEEC) offers Young Writers programs that nurture creativity and strengthen students' skills in written expression through immersive and inspiring experiences. These programs provide opportunities for students to explore storytelling and a wide range of creative writing forms in a supportive environment designed to build confidence and enjoyment in writing. Students are encouraged to experiment with language, develop their individual voices, and refine literacy skills that extend across the curriculum. A highlight of the programs is the partnering with guest authors, who mentor students, sharing their professional insights and techniques while offering students authentic inspiration and practical strategies to enhance their own writing practice.
The Young Writers programs represent a valuable extension of the English curriculum, supporting key literacy outcomes while promoting creative and critical thinking. Through guided workshops, collaborative tasks, and interaction with visiting authors, students are provided with experiences that encourage them to plan, draft, edit, and reflect on their writing in meaningful ways. These programs not only improve technical writing skills but also inspire students to view writing as an engaging and powerful tool for communication. By partnering with MBEEC, schools can enrich their literacy programs with authentic learning opportunities that motivate students, foster resilience in the writing process, and cultivate the next generation of confident, creative thinkers.
Award winning Guest Authors MBEEC have partnered with include: Samantha Wheeler, Aleesah Darlison and Gregg Dreise.
