Connect with Heritage is a day program at Brisbane's Newstead House. This unique immersive program offers a selection of hands-on learning experiences inspiring students to connect with heritage at this significant site on the Brisbane River.
Upon arrival at Newstead House, students are invited to become History Detectives. Students explore the grounds of Newstead House to appreciate how the land has changed over time, impacting on local First Nations Peoples' culture and traditions. The Harris family provides the perfect opportunity for students to explore how the lives of Colonial Queenslanders are similar and different to their own in the present day.
A suite of educational experiences and activities are designed for students to compare Brisbane in the 1800's to Brisbane today. History Detectives step back in time as they are immersed in activities including 'Wash Day Wonders', 'Games on the Green', 'Plants and their uses' and 'Artefact Exploration'. The program would not be complete without using Newstead House as a stage where students investigate the oldest standing European residence in Brisbane. The program concludes with students journaling their discoveries of how daily lives have changed over time.
