Moreton Bay Marine Park is one of Australia's most significant marine environments, recognised internationally as a Ramsar wetland of importance. Covering more than 25,000 hectares of shallow and deep-water habitats, the bay supports a remarkable level of biodiversity. Within its sheltered waters, students can discover over 120 species of coral, seven types of seagrass meadows, and seven species of mangroves, each playing a vital role in maintaining the health of this unique ecosystem. The bay is also home to dolphins, dugongs, sea turtles, and a wide variety of shorebirds that migrate thousands of kilometres each year to rest and feed along its coastline.
Students have the rare opportunity to explore this living laboratory aboard our 12-metre catamaran, Inspiration. Designed as a floating classroom, the vessel provides a safe and hands-on learning space where students can engage in real-world science. Activities may include water quality testing, plankton sampling, marine species identification, and ecological surveys, all of which help students build a deeper understanding of marine processes and the delicate balance that sustains Moreton Bay. This immersive experience not only connects young people with their local environment but also inspires the next generation of marine scientists, conservationists, and environmental leaders.
