2017 Healthy Land and Water Awards Winners

Congratulations to our partners over at Stanley River Environmental Education Centre who, in conjunction with ourselves and Barambah Environmental Education Centre, delivered the Bunya to Bay Eco Adventure which won in the 2017 Health Land and Water Awards last night.
The Healthy Land and Water Awards recognises and celebrates the dedication and passion of volunteers, schools, community groups and organisations who are working to protect and improve South East Queensland's land and waterways. The Bunya to Bay Eco Adventure was awarded the 2017 Winner for Sustainable Education Award as well as receiving the Minister's Grand Prize as judged by an independent panel of experts
The biennial Bunya to the Bay Eco Adventure provides a multifaceted, three-week eco-challenge for Queensland high school students. Using canoes and bicycles, the students follow the Brisbane River from its upper reaches down to Moreton Bay, along the way engaging in activities such as water monitoring, vegetation assessment, riparian studies, photography and land management studies.
Spearheaded by the Stanley River Environmental Education Centre, the program is facilitated in partnership with Barambah and Moreton Bay Environmental Education Centre. Students gain a strong appreciation of Indigenous Perspectives and develop an increased capacity for environmental science fieldwork and advocacy work. At the end of the adventure, 15 students received a Certificate 2 in Conservation and Land Management.
